snow!

So the entire Richmond area is snowed in. Of course, Powhatan has much more snow than the actual city of Richmond. Today, my dad decided to take me truckin' in the big old truck. In the snow. It was quite the experience. to start off, I drove.

Before I knew it, I was barreling down the hill in our back yard, straight for a tree. I thought my life was close to its end. While slowing down, I steered away from the tree, just to escape it by inches.

on my way back up the hill, I told my dad that I expected more fun than I was having. He said, "I'll have to show you how it's done then." before I finished comprehending this phrase, we went airborne, truck and all. "I think you've got the right idea." my dad muttered in his fright.

After this, I asked my dad to drive. If I hadn't put us through enough, he took off as quickly as possible, sending me flying through the truck. I hit my head on the roof. Ouch. I still have a headache.

the end.

random fact: Michael Jackson and Michael Flatley lived in the same house for awhile, in Ireland.

<3

love is a funny thing. not that i know much about it, but i was thinking about this wonderful gift god has given us.

i find it interesting when someone says, "it's ok, he doesn't deserve you anyway".
to be frank, that's nice of you to say, but it's certainly not that simple.

why?

because when it all began, you thought, "he's the one".
because somewhere between the first "hi" and the last "goodbye", you fell in love.
because when he walked away, he took your heart with him.
because it's simply not that simple.

how do you fall in love?

is it like in the movies, when a couple meets on, say, an airplane or a train? or perhaps they see each other and know?
is it slowly, or an all-of-a-sudden shock?
is it a roller coaster ride like people sing about?

i personally find love an intriguing topic to talk about. :)

haircut soon!

So it's that time again. I always feel such mixed emotions the week before my haircut. Excited to try a new 'do, I worry that it won't work. To add to the already whirled-about feelings, I dread the two weeks after my new haircut. While I can learn different ways to style my new hair, the sharp, blunt ends of my hair just feel... wrong?

So, with this all in mind, I have a new haircut in one week from today. We'll just see how this turns out. But for now, there are less than 3 hours left in this decade. With that said, Happy New Year! (And decade) :]

can't sleep:(

this shouldn't come as a surprise, as i chugged down a starbucks latte in which i forgot to ask for decaf espresso. but i have to be at work in 5.5 hours and can't sleep.

on a happier note, tomorrow is thanksgiving day. a quick side story:
while tutoring last wednesday, one of my three students had an assignment to write a few things she shows thankfulness for having. Six years old, she looked to me to ask, "what am i thankful for?" I responded by quizzing her on what thankfulness actually is. "ummmm, i don't know..." was her answer, as usual. I proceeded to give her a few examples about what i am thankful for, and just as most first graders, her first choice was her family.

so in light of this, here are some things i am thankful for:
*a God and Savior who loves me, provides for me, and has a brilliant plan for me.
*a wonderful family, dysfunctional as it may be.
*a fabulous set of friends.
*politics and Fox News.
*the english language.
*a great education.

Perhaps this seems a bit like a first grade activity, but if i don't recognize these things, i'm certain to disregard them in all aspects of life. It's important to realize what you're thankful for.

in fact, i'm thankful for this time of unrest. without it, i wouldn't have an 11th blog post! :)

I'm back!

So I know I've been a terrible underachiever and neglected my blog, but I think I'm back. I promise, I'll stay up until 3am if I have to, but I won't neglect my blog anymore.

A lot has gone on lately, with college applications, SATs, Dunkin' Donuts, classes, and my family.

To start, College Applications are a huge task. The applications themselves aren't too bad, but the essays cause a bit of stress atop my already busy schedule.

SATs should be over, but now, as a homeschooler, I'm required to take a minimum of 2 SAT2s at most schools. However, one of the school's I'm applying to requires 3 SAT2s. So, my next task? 3 SAT subject tests: chemistry, spanish, and math.

As for Dunkin' Donuts, things are going well. However, after receiving a phone call from an officer about a high school coworker who ran away from home, shock and worry rushed through me.

My classes at John Tyler and J. Sarge are going well, however, I'm not a huge fan of John Tyler. During the insane torrential downpour all over Virginia, John Tyler classes were cancelled due to a power outage. However, I drove all the way to campus, 45 minutes from my house to find that classes were in fact, cancelled. I did not receive an email until after my class time had begun :/ Of course, that set me in a terrible mood to complement my already cranky outlook on the week of nonstop rain. I proceeded to drive home and found that my 5pm class would occur. For a second time I drove to the college to attend a class that lasted 15 minutes. This of course, set me in an even worse mood.

On a sort of funny note, my dad, preparing for a bonfire this weekend, was mowing the lawn yesterday. I heard a loud bang. This couldn't possibly turn out well. I looked outside to make sure my dad was OK, and saw him chugging along on the lawn mower. I glanced at all of the windows to assure myself that nothing had broken. Everything appeared as normal, but i suddenly heard a crackling noise. Uh-oh. I looked at the front storm door to find the glass insert, shattered. My mom, at work, had no idea what happened, so my dad and I puled and Wally and Beaver Cleaver, and went to Lowe's to buy a new insert. My dad fixed the glass before my mom returned, and told her late last night. This morning as I was getting ready for my day at school, I heard my dad say, "oh noooo." Of course, I rushed into the dining room to see a gashed picture window (you know, the big, square windows that take up half the wall? one of those.). Needless to say, my dad most likely wants a new lawn mower. He'll do anything for a new yard toy.

So that's the latest for me. How's life in the rest of the world?
